Welcome to Witchampton WI

We are very proud that there has been a WI in our village for 90 years just four years after the very first WI started in Wales. Women then started opening WIs in their villages throughout England and Wales.

Witchampton has archives dating back to 1925 and they show what an important part the WI played in the lives of the women in Witchampton. Following in that long tradition we meet every month on the second Thursday of the month at 7.15pm in the Function Room of the Witchampton and Crichel Club.

Our meetings nearly always begin with “News” This really means going through what we have been doing and making arrangements for what we will be doing. So nothing too serious! Each month we usually listen to a talk given by a visiting speaker. Visitors are always welcome to come to a meeting if a subject is of interest to them and stay and enjoy the refreshments that follow.

The WI is in the Moorlands Chase Group, together with the WIs in Ashley Heath, Cranborne and Edmonsham, Gaunts and Holt, Three Legged Cross, Verwood and West Moors This group get togetherfor extra meetings and activities. Witchampton’s president Gwen O’Brien is the Group’s Chairman.

Witchampton WI is part of the Dorset Federation and National Federation of Women’s Institutes In 2006 we entered a Scrapbook of twelve illustrated monthly walks in East Dorset and were very proud to win the National Federation’ s competition beating 710 other WIs in this country. We were then given a lottery grant to have it published into a handy walk size edition.

Other activities
Each month a group of members walk together in one of the beautiful places in our area and also participate in some interesting activity or visit on another afternoon in the month
